Car hire

1. Rate and payment

• €35 per day, paid with the stay: the hire is included in the deposit and the balance.
• The car comes with the airport transfer, paid in cash to the driver, on top of the stay.

2. Collection and return

• The car is collected and returned at the Cap Lodge Martinique residence. The hire only ends when the car, its keys and documents are returned.
• Any unauthorised late return is charged €50 per hour and may lead to legal action.

3. Security deposit and excess

• A €1,000 security deposit is taken as a card pre-authorisation, with no immediate charge. It is separate from the lodge deposit.
• A deposit link is sent to you on the day of arrival: you confirm it on site, when you collect the keys.
• With no damage or sum owed, the pre-authorisation is released no later than thirty days after departure, subject to the bank's processing times.
• The car has comprehensive insurance with AXA (Le Marin agency). The excess is €800.

4. Excess waiver

Optional, €14 per day: if the car is damaged, you no longer pay the €800 excess. Choose it when you book, with the car.

• Not covered by the excess waiver: lost keys, tyres, interior damage and seat burns, damage to the sills and to the underside of the car.

5. Authorised drivers

• Only people over 21 and/or who have held a licence for at least 5 years, named on the contract, may drive the car.

6. Cancellation and refunds

• Cancellation more than 30 days before arrival: the 30% deposit is kept.
• Cancellation less than 30 days before arrival: no refund, including in the event of a hurricane, tropical storm, natural disaster, earthquake, pandemic or epidemic, or cancelled flight.
• Early return: no refund.

7. Condition and fuel

The car is provided clean, with a full tank. It must be returned in the same condition (cleaned inside and out) and with a full tank. Otherwise:

• missing fuel is charged, plus a €30 handling fee;
• cleaning not done: €60.

8. Damage and charges

• Damage not reported at collection or caused during the hire is paid by the hirer.
• Tyre damage other than normal wear: the hirer replaces the tyres.
• Lost keys, or keys dropped in the water, are charged, plus a €150 call-out fee.
• Fines: the driver's details are passed on to the fines processing centre in Rennes.

9. Responsibilities and restrictions

The hirer is responsible for the car, even when parked, throughout the hire. Repairs without Cap Lodge Martinique's agreement are forbidden. Also forbidden:

• taking the car off Martinique or onto a boat;
• driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
• towing another vehicle.

10. Full liability

The hirer is fully liable in the event of:

• an unauthorised driver;
• wrong fuel;
• interior damage;
• driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

11. Theft and accidents

• In the event of theft, a report to the authorities is mandatory; sending it to us ends the hire.
• In the event of an accident, an accident report form must be completed and Cap Lodge Martinique informed within 24 hours. If you are at fault and the car is immobilised or written off, the security deposit is kept and towing is charged.
